Problem with my Silver Dollar Fish Fins Help!?

I have a 29 gallon tank. It is well established. It contains one catfish who hides out in the cave, 2 tiger barbs, one orange barb and two silver dollars. I have had the silver dollars for several months but they are the newcomers. Their fins look chewed on. They seem healthy other than that. I have never seen any of the fish chasing or bothering them. I read that they are sensitive to salt. Could that be the problem or are the other fish biting them when I am not looking? HELP!

I would guess it’s not your old fish, but the Silver Dollars themselves. These are schooling (or at least shoaling) fish, and with only two, they will get rather insecure, and tend to show aggression towards one another. When you see them swimming together, chances are, they’re taking pot shots at one another. A 29 gallon tank isn’t really suitable for Silver Dollars anyway, as they will reach a healthy 7-8″ in diameter, and a 29 gallon tank simply isn’t that much room, especially when you consider the numbers they need to be in (3+). Yuo might consider giving away the Silver Dollars and replacing them with a school of 7-11 Black Skirt Tetras, as they have a similar body shape, but will only reach about 1.5″ at best.
